Near Vuoksa River. Settlement Losevo. Part II - from the Russo-Finnish War to the Great Patriotic War

In the forests of Lakeshire tourists, hunters, and just gardeners are often faced with the remnants of the massive fortifications of the Russo-Finnish War. It is carefully hidden in the forests of pillboxes, bunkers with reinforced concrete walls and ceiling, more than a meter thick, a system of trenches. People call this building "Mannerheim Line", on behalf of the Chief of the Finnish army during the Russo-Finnish War, and then President of Finland, Carl Gustaf Mannerheim. In the legends of Lakeshire, and in military and historical editions of the Soviet period dominated by stable point of view that the Mannerheim Line was a deeply layered strip firing permanent fortifications, which by its technical power allegedly did not yield to the reinforced concrete fortifications of the French Maginot Line and the German "Siegfried Line. In fact, the extent and severity of fortifications that were built by the Finns on the border with the Soviet Union, some exaggerated Soviet historiography. In addition, people sometimes confuse defenses with the Karelian Finns fortified, built by the Red Army and played a huge role in the defense of Leningrad during World War II.Despite the fact that from the viewpoint of military science, strategy and defense of the importance of "Mannerheim Line" is not so important an object, it remains capable of impressing and often attract the attention of tourists, fans of military history and just travel. Remains of the fortifications, found in Lakeshire, refer to a defensive position and the main defensive zone defenses. The term "Mannerheim Line" appeared only at the beginning of the Soviet-Finnish War, when Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim was appointed Commander of the Finnish army. In fact, this term is hiding some defensive areas, designed and built at different times.

June 17, 1944 98 th and 115 th Infantry Corps 23rd Army, commanded by generals respectively GI Anisimov and SB Kozachek, broke through the second line of defense of the Finnish troops, and came to Vuoksinskoy water system - the third page of the Finnish Defense. Commanded the Leningrad Front - Marshal (June 18) Govorov.
From 18 to 30 June 1944 with the support of the regiment assigned to units tried to force the river near the village of Vuoksa Kiviniemi (now Losevo) around the destroyed railway bridge. However Finnish troops entrenched on the third page of the defense, offered stubborn resistance, and Soviet troops suffered heavy losses already on the approaches to river.
As a result of unsuccessful attempts to force, the commanders decided to move west of the strike - in the area of the current settlement Baryshevo (Nyuryapyai).
